Lace veiled bunny and cat ears headbands!

There's something mysterious going on in my Etsy shop! I simply have to show off my veiled bunny rabbit and cat ears headbands! The lace ears look great without a veil of course, but they take on a new allure when worn with a veil! I usually attach the veil permanently, but there's no reason why they can't be detachable, two designs in one! The cat and bunny ears come in black or white! With new photos of Talulah Blue modelling, taken by fabulous photographer Grace Elkin, I'm all set for a sewing spree! 10% off all items in my Etsy shop in the lead up to Easter, using code DISCOUNTS at checkout!

Vietnamese beansprout salad pickle, Dua Gia

Sometimes I write about food, as a complete amateur home cook and lately I have been craving a dish from my childhood, which I think my mom used to buy in jars from the store in the 1970's. It was a beansprouts with vegetables mix which she added to her own recipe for Chinese style crispy sweet n' sour pork with fried rice. Mom was pretty out there with her cuisine in the 70's, with an eclectic repertoire of various World foods, no fish fingers and baked beans for us!
I researched on the Internet and was so happy to find that the beansprout salad is called Dua Gia and is a Vietnamese side dish, usually served with other dishes such as pork belly and rice. I like to enjoy the salad with more vegetables to serve, a hard boiled egg, avocado slices, or Quorn veggie Turkey slices for a delicious, filling, very low calorie dish. There is currently media interest in the subject of restricting foods and calories, eating less wheat, meat and dairy, with the idea of living longer and suffering less chronic illness. I'm no expert, but I love a healthy salad! This is my simple version of the recipe. Feel free to adapt the quantities. Traditionally the recipe uses spring onions or scallions, but I only had a red onion! I added an egg, thinly sliced cucumber and a grind of black pepper to serve.
The veggies are raw, yet the brine gives them a slightly cooked, but still crisp appetising texture.
The salad looks lovely in the storage jars and is fun and so easy to make!
For the veg.
1 bag of supermarket beansprouts, about 370 grams, rinsed and picked over.
1 large carrot, finely sliced.
1 med red onion, finely sliced.
1 small red pepper, finely sliced.

For the brine.
2 cups of water.
1 cup of white clear vinegar.
1 tbsp salt.
1 tbsp sugar.

Method. In a pan, heat the brine ingredients to dissolve the salt and sugar. Leave to cool completely.
Prepare the vegetables, toss them together and store in a lidded container or into jars. Pour the cooled brine over the veg. If using a jar, fill to cover the veg, although the veg will shrink down slightly. The salad is ready to eat in a few hours, but is best if left overnight and will keep well for a couple days in the refrigerator.

How to make lace cat ears headband.

When I first started making my cat and bunny ears headbands, there wasn't a hell of a lot of competition to be frank! I've been making and selling my headband designs for at least 6 years and in this time, they are now being factory made in the far East and sold very inexpensively on many large well known wholesale websites. Nothing wrong with that, it's just life and the natural evolution of products! At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I have purchased the factory made versions, to see the quality for myself and they do offer great value for money, if you want cheap and cheerful. However, if you require a luxury item, made with very high quality materials and a great deal of skill, you will probably take a browse in my shop! If you are a celebrity on the other hand, you be most likely go for the very expensive designer versions. So you see, there is something for everyone in the marketplace. I've put together a little compilation of photos to share a few of my trade secrets, if you fancy having a go at making your own kitty ears. If you can't be bothered and just want to buy the dang things, my shop is always open 24/7!! Thanks for reading, catch you next time!
A plain metal headband is covered by wrapping in satin ribbon.

I make an ears frame from the black or white strong wire and attach it to the headband with more ribbon.

Ears are cut from pretty lace and also mesh for strength.

The lace ears are hand stitched to the frame.

The edges are trimmed neatly and any decorations are hand stitched into place, Voila!

Divine Exotic Gypsy Gowns.

Here at Talulahblue, we're creating an exotic mood for spring. There's been a wonderful 1920's feel in the air all throughout 2014 and now we can extend this through 2015 with a bohemian gypsy feel. Take inspiration from The Eastern Orient, Arabian nights and Ancient Egypt. This is all about luxurious embroidery, bead work, plump swishy tassels and an unapologetically glamorous lifestyle.  We hope to capture the spirit with these beautiful images modelled by Talulah Blue, photographs by Grace Elkin. Easter Bunnies!

We are at last out of February and into March. I am pleased to report that my Daffodils are already starting to sprout, yay!! Okay so it's a little early to rejoice the herald of spring and I won't be able to take a photo of the daffodils, until at least another month, but no matter, the sun is already higher in the sky and the days are longer!
Which brings me to Easter and my Easter bunnies! Not the fluffy kind, although I adore them! More like the lacy kind for me and I love thinking up new designs! It's another month or so until Easter, but I will start early for my USA customers, especially as shipping is taking a while at the moment, due to severe weather and USPS backlogs! Lovely photos by Grace Elkin, see her facebook page in my side column! Happy Easter!
